EXECUTIVE CHEF

ANTHONY DECHAVEZ

Tony has over 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry, and graduated from Schoolcraft in 2014. He’s traveled and cooked in France, Chicago, and worked with several reputable chefs including Stephanie Izard and Jimmy Bannos Jr. Aside from cooking and traveling, Tony is a DJ/Producer. With his creative background and training he has teamed up with Black Pearl to offer the city of Ann Arbor contemporary interpretations of classic seafood — uniting time tested plates that have brought smiles to the masses with new blends of flavors and techniques that are waiting to be explored. We are thrilled to have Tony as a long time integral member of the Black Pearl team, and to share his creativity through the dishes we serve.

JAKE DOYAL

Jake’s dedicated, professional reputation in Washtenaw County has been built on providing excellent customer service for over 15 years. As a 15-year veteran on Main Street, his presence offers up a welcoming neighborhood gathering spot for all.

 

BEVERAGE MANAGER

IAN B. YOUNGS

Ian has been a member of the food and beverage scene for 13 years studying as a Sommelier, Liquor Specialist, and other facets of the industry. Ian is a Michigan native who spent time working in Aspen, CO for several years before returning home to continue his career. Earlier studies were from The University of Michigan where he began his studies of beverage. He has a wealth of experience and a healthy reverence for classic cocktails, but his true enjoyment comes from making memories for those who join for drink or cuisine.

HARRY COHEN

As a psychologist who travels the country giving talks to executives on leadership, customer service, and personal development, launching Black Pearl Ann Arbor was a perfect opportunity to create an environment that embodies the essence of what Harry talks about; welcoming people with love, creating a great place to work, and delivering a memorable experience. In his book, Secrets of the Obvious, Harry writes of the human need for friendship and a place where people can be surrounded by “good company.” The mission of the staff at Black Pearl is to create a unique and accessible place where people can gather with friends, family, or strangers and be uplifted by the food, the service, the music, and the beautiful ambiance. JAN ZIEGELMAN COHEN

Jan has lived in Ann Arbor for over 40 years and is the co-owner of Black Pearl Ann Arbor with her husband Harry. Jan uses her artistic sensibilities to make the overall vibe of Black Pearl a beautiful, warm, inviting, and uplifting place for customers and staff alike. The unique ambience of Black Pearl is one of the reasons people love to hang out there and Jan is forever looking for ways to enhance that experience for everyone.
